Before Rick riordan decided to write this novel (The Lost Hero), he had also wrote other novels about fantasy and greek mythology but based them towards more of an adult crowd. Rick Riordan was conceived about making the idea for the Percy Jackson series as bedtime stories about ancient greek heroes for his son Haley when Haley had been diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, inspiring Riordan to make the main characters dyslexic with ADHD which set the characters apart and made them special. Riordan published the first book in the series, The Lightning Thief in 2005. Rick Riordan also wrote another entire 4 book series, The Last Olympian in 2009. Before the Percy Jackson series he had written the Tres Navarres series which is a series of mystery novels for adult readers.
I believe Rick Riordan wants to compare himself to Jason Grace as he puts a lot of emotion and personal life into this character. Jason grace is also the first character he decided to write about. Jason is not sure what to do but everyone looks at him as a leader or a saving grace they look up to. I believe that Rick Riordan sees himself as jason grace because he wants to be that saving grace figure to his son Haley to show him it is okay to be different and set apart from others.
